Kuching Food Festival 2014 - Part 3 : Spanish Churros

This year another new things at Kuching Food Festival is Spanish Churros.  They are two stall advertise themself selling churros.

What is Churros?  Quoted from Wiki "A churro, sometimes referred to as a Spanish doughnut, is a fried-dough pastry—predominantly choux—based snack. Churros are popular in Spain, France, the Philippines, Portugal, Ibero-America and the United States. There are two types of churros in Spain, one which is thin (and sometimes knotted) and the other which is long and thick (porra). They are both normally eaten for breakfast dipped in hot chocolate or café con leche."  Basically is a type fried pastry from Spain.

The history of Churros is unclear.  There are 2 theory, first theory is that they were brought to Europe by the Portuguese.  Portuguese got the idea from China, they modified the culinary techniques of making "You Tiao". As they are unable to learn the skil of "pulling" the dough they modified into a star design.  That is how the Churrors get their signature shape.  Second theory is that the Churro was made by the Spanish Shepherds.  As the shepherds live high up on the mountain, get a fresh bakery goods is difficult.  Churros paste was easy to make and it can be fried in an open fire.

Back to Kuching Food Festival.  There is two stall selling the churros. The first stall nearer to the entrance.

Honestly...this other stall I have mistaken putting up the stall picture as the first stall picture on my first part. As i didn't know that there were 2 stall selling Churros.

I plan to go to try the Churros at this stall tonight.  Cancel the plan after I see what their churros look like. RLOL.  Somebody posted on facebook the Churros that they got from this stall.

Errrrr......I wonder if they have search the internet for the recipe of Churros? or have they actually google the picture of churros?  This should be called crepe not churros.

Kuching Food Festival 2014 - Part 2 : The Salted Fish Bun Craze

There is 3 stall that selling Salted Fish Bun.  This craze is all because of a hong kong drama series "Gilded Chopsticks 食為奴".  Yesterday evening I did not get to try the salted fish bun so i went back today.  I went earlier today still there is a bit of queue at the most eye catching stall.

So this stall has very big banner showing the main actor of the movie with all the picture of emperor enjoying the bun.

I join the crowd queuing up to buy the bun. I bought 3 packet, each packet contain 3 pieces of bun and it cost RM5 per pack.  Happily got my bun after about 20 minute wait. While walking away from the stall i open up the bag and try to sniff if i can find the salted fish aroma, I can't find the aroma of the salted fish.  The taste of the bun has a very mild hint of salted fish aroma. 

I walk pass by Kim Bay stall I saw them selling Salted Fish Bun too, I have tried their Salted Fish Bun at their outlet the other day.  Their has a very strong salted fish aroma but the filling is lack of the taste of the salted fish.

While sitting down I was looking the surrounding stall and I saw another stall selling the Salted Fish Bun. This stall deco does not look impressive.

I bought 1 bun from this stall, no queue, 1 piece of bun is RM3. Is kind of expensive  I thought.  So I only buy 1 to try just in case it is not nice then I won't was so much. When I got my bun sniff into the paper bag, and YES! the aroma of the salted fish is so aromatic! Me, Marie and Eli shared a piece so we split the bun into 3.  When I bite into it and YES! I can taste the salted fish taste in the filling! I love it!

RLOL!! this is my 3rd day going to Kuching Food Festival.  Now I'm thinking of what to try tomorrow. :p

Kuching Food Festival 2014 - Part 1

Once again the month of August where Kuchingite will flood the MBKS Jubilee Hall for the food savouring.  *RLOL* Being a Kuchingite, how can I not go?

I was not feeling well during the opening on friday so I did not get to go. *SOB* *SOB* So last night after I pick my mom up around 10.20pm I went there with her.  Most of the stall finished selling their food.  So today after work, I die die also must go.  I have done my survey last night on what i wanted to eat.

Bora Bora Singapore Laksa

When I walk pass the stall I was capture by the name of the stall. Bora Bora...cute eh.. So they are selling Singapore Laksa.  While I was taking picture of the stall the guy asked me if I want to try.  So he gave me a small bowl to try.  The smell remind me of prawn curry.  The taste is exactly like prawn curry, there is nothing spicy to it.  Very very mild taste.

Spanish Churros

I heard of Churros before but I never had it before. Churros is a type of Spanish donut.  The Churros is buttery and fried to perfection.  I love the Cheese Churros as it was not sweet but creamy. While the cinnamon sugar with chocolate dip is kind of too sweet for me but if you like sweet things then the cinnamon sugar with chocolate dip will be your favorites.

The Incredible Hog

One look of it when I pass by it looks like normal stall selling sausages.  What caught my eyes is the egg, at first i thought it was just some normal egg in a pastry or bun.  When I walk nearer I saw that the egg was wrapped in something like meat.  So I ask the stall owner what is that outside the egg.  He said is the meat from german sausage.  Well it got me interested, I ordered one egg and mini sausages wrapped in bacon.  I can be sure that the mini sausages is not the frozen sausages, it is mini german sausage.  While waiting for my food to be ready I go thru the menu I so another interesting sausage, Choco Cheese Sausage.  I as the owner Choco Cheese because it is chocolate color and cheese in the sausage or the real Chocolate and Cheese in the sausage.  He said is Chocolate + Cheese in it, I am so going to try it tomorrow.

My Mom got a Curry Puff from the vegetarian stall which is still the plastic bag.  Will try to steal a bite to night.

She also got a fried bird from the usual stall that operate every year.

This year the craze is the salted fish bun.  All this is cause by the Hong Kong Drama that show not long ago.  Is about a chef who made the Salted Fish Bun for the emperor and he love it very much.  I wanted to try but my mom said we can try next time as she don't want to queue up.

This are the stall that caught my eyes.  I will go back and try the food if I has the chance.

One things I am very upset is that some of the stall operator they put their stall name or what they are selling in chinese only.  For somebody like me who don't read chinese I don't even know what they are selling.
